The Shaanxi Yellow River Culture Museum is located in Dongfanghong Cultural Industrial Park, Jia County, Yulin, Shaanxi Province. By exploring the contemporary significance and cultural spirit of the Yellow River basin, the museum documents the progress of ecological conservation and high-quality development along the Yellow River in Shaanxi. Through the protection, transmission and promotion of Yellow River culture, it supports coordinated urban and rural development and regional economic transformation.
With a total floor area of 16,780 square metres and an exhibition area of 11,660 square metres, it is the first comprehensive museum in Shaanxi devoted to Yellow River culture. The museum has five exhibition halls. The first four form the permanent exhibition, A River Flowing Through the Ages: Yellow River Culture in Shaanxi. They explore the basin’s geography, history, folk traditions and river management through four sections: The Great River and Its Lands, The Dawn of Chinese Civilization, The Ninety-Nine Bends of the Yellow River, and A Peaceful and Well-Managed River. A separate exhibition, We Live Here on the Riverbank: The History of Jia County, presents the county’s historical development and local traditions.
The museum displays 3,678 items, including 2 first-grade cultural relics in 2 groups, 15 second-grade relics in 14 groups, and 175 third-grade relics in 155 groups.
Mechanical installations, cultural relics, relief sculptures and virtual reality experiences bring the Yellow River basin’s natural landscapes, historical and cultural achievements, and folk traditions to life.
The special exhibition on Jia County also introduces its rich Yellow River heritage and cultural tourism resources. Visitors can discover the serene beauty of Baiyun Mountain, the dramatic setting of Xianglu Temple, and the thousand-year history of Mutouyu’s ancient ferry crossing, while learning about the everyday lives and cultural traditions of communities on both banks of the river.
The Shaanxi Yellow River Culture Museum is a place to discover Yellow River culture and a bridge between the past and the future. It invites visitors to understand the river’s history more deeply, cherish its cultural heritage, and help pass that heritage on. Join us in experiencing the grandeur of the Yellow River and writing a new chapter in its story.
