On March 18, a six-person delegation led by Wang Aiai visited the Shaanxi Yellow River Culture Museum to explore the depth and distinctive character of Yellow River culture. Wang is a renowned Jin Opera performer, a representative inheritor of this nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage tradition, and is widely known as the “Queen of Jin Opera.”
Accompanied by a guide, the delegation toured the permanent exhibition, A River Flowing Through the Ages. They studied the exhibits and listened closely to accounts of the Yellow River basin’s history, folk traditions and cultural heritage. In the section on regional opera, the artists praised the exhibition design and presentation of traditional forms including Jin Opera and Qinqiang.
During the visit, Wang enthusiastically performed excerpts from classic Jin Opera works. Her rich, expressive singing demonstrated the distinctive qualities of her celebrated “Aiai style.” The impromptu performance brought the sounds of intangible cultural heritage into the museum and gave visitors a close encounter with the appeal of traditional art.
The visit brought traditional opera and Yellow River civilization together in the museum. It promoted Chinese cultural heritage, enriched the ways culture is shared with the public, and encouraged the joint development and transmission of Yellow River culture and the intangible heritage of Shanxi and Shaanxi.
